The most common biological element used in Biosensors is antibodies. However, anybody who has worked with antibody knows that getting good antibodies can be quite a challenging task. Commercial sources of antibodies may not be available and even if they are available they may not be validated for the biosensing applications. Western Blot and/or ELISA are most commonly used method for determining the specificity and cross reactivity of antibody. Both these methods identify antibodies that detect partially or completely denatured proteins that may or may not be good for capturing or detecting proteins on biosensing platform.
You must be saying what’s new? I guess nothing. Everyone is aware of these deficiencies and has learned to live with it. But still, when I came across just published review on Antibody Validation, reading it was time well spent so thought I will share it with you folks. Happy reading!
